Stay Cool Dad

About

It seems that when you reach a certain age in life, the way you consume popular culture – and especially music – changes. All of a sudden ‘Greatest Hits’ albums of the bands you liked in your youth seem attractive. And you stop listening to new stuff.

I do not want this to happen to me, because I worry that if it does I will be completely out of touch with the music and culture my kids grow into.

Hence Stay Cool Dad. I want to stay cool. I also hope that by offering a place where parents can discuss the popular culture they like and the stuff their kids consume, that we can create a resource that means we understand what our kids are consuming, rather than just having a textbook moral panic about it or dismissing it as “just noise.”

Join in! It’ll only work if you do!

Hi ,

I’m writing to invite you to join the beta of uPlayMe, a free social networking application designed to link people with similar tastes in musical artists, songs or genres. I figured it would be up your alley.

Once installed, the uPlayMe application automatically scans for music recently played on your computer or iPod and then connects you with other uPlayMe users who share your music tastes. The program continues to run in the background, constantly updating your matches based on what you’re listening to.

If you’re interested in trying out the program, just let me know and I will send you an invite.

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you,

– Alan
