Don't judge them too harshly, I love the song and alway get a wry smile at the four letter word (not Dell ;-) around the 35 second mark.

Not keeping them away from HP at all. It is a small part of their media diet. But we do try to keep their media age-appropriate. Stuff like HP permeates and we have learned that cannot be stopped. But we find that if we can steer them towards more age-appropriate stuff, the result is better.
Watching Play School, for example, never sparks anti-social behaviour or play that involves things the kids clearly do not comprehend. So instead of running around shouting "Avada Kedavra - you're dead!" you get cute jokes playing with the lyrics of "I'm a little teapot." The latter shows comprehension of a different order. That makes one feel a better parent.

Just curious - are you keeping them away from Harry Potter for a reason? There's plenty of better kid's lit out there, but I wondered if you didn't want him reading it for a particular reason.

I adored Devo and still do - if I ever had a chance to get a new dog I have determined to get a whippet and name it "Good". I don't want to know about them doing ads, really.

Simon,
Our four-year-old also knows road trips = "Donalds" = toy.
But over the APEC weekend we went up to the in-laws' farm near Singleton and Donalds = a playground. No mention of a toy or chippies.
Could McDonalds be encouraging our kids to engage in physical activity?!
He and little brother were asleep when we pulled into the McD's drive through in Maitland on Sunday. He still doesn't know he missed Donalds. Had to hide the evidence (bag, wrappers with the tell-tale golden arches) under wife's feet.

There are few things in life that are more amusing than watching a five year old beat everyone (and I mean everyone) at Wii Sports Bowling.

Drop me a line if you want to borrow a couple of games, Mr S.

>>wineries have no cute animals...

If you're ever game enough to give it another go with the kids try Kevin Sobels in the Hunter Valley. From my experience their giant St Bernard will keep the kids entertained long enough for you to work your way through the tasting list.

You should be able to have fun with the kids and a Wii - in fact, if you can't, something's going badly wrong.

If my experiences are any guide, it may pay to be prepared to be beaten at Wii Sports Bowling by a five year old. Repeatedly. My wife tells me it's character-building...
