Another song made an impression on me this morning on Pro-Am radio! A minimal, twangy slide guitar rendition of Cameo’s 1986 hit “Word up”. The husky folk/country ladies’ name escapes me …

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be on iTunes, so I can’t share it, but almost as interesting is all the other people who’ve covered it:

Mel G
Gun (heavy like Korn)
The Cross Movement (hard core hip hop)
Marty Q (old style 80’s funk. More old-style in fact than the original, which really doesn’t sound like any decade)

But the stand out, at least to the 13 year old in me, was the name and album title of yet another heavy cover. The artist: Dick van Dick. The album: dicktastrophe. I don’t think I’m going to bother listening to the album, but I am consumed by respect. I bet their mother hates that name.

and the people who bought the Cameo album also bought: John Butler Trio and Jeff Buckley.

Funny old world, where’s my plastic codpiece …
