I’m reading a great book, Rip it Up and Start Again, by Simon Reynolds.

It is a history of post-punk and chronicles the adventures of all sorts of bands.

I’m about a third of the way in and would recommend it to anyone because it is one of the few rock books to critically appraise the evolution of music and the motivations of musicians, rather than dissolve into fanboy adoration.

It helps that most of the bands covered are bands that adorned my teenage years.

But I do believe the author’s assertion that this was a particularly vibrant period for music.

I hope my kids teenage years happen during a similarly fertile period.
